General Hospital actor Steve Burton fired for his anti-vaccination stance

“General Hospital” star Steve Burton confirmed on Instagram the rumors that he had been fired from the long-running soap opera because he would not get the Covid-19 vaccine.

“I wanted you to hear it from me personally.” he said, reports varie.com.

He added, “Unfortunately, ‘General Hospital’ let me go because of the vaccination warrant. I asked for my medical and religious exemptions, and both were denied. Which, you know, hurts. But it’s also a question of personal freedom for me.
Burton went on to express his gratitude to the series, where he has played Jason Morgan on and off since 1991.

He said: “Maybe one day, if these terms are lifted, I can come back and finish my career as Jason Morgan. It would be an honor.

On Monday, Variety reported that it appeared Burton could have been fired from the show because of the issue.

The vaccination mandate for zone A of the “general hospital”, which includes the people present on the set when the actors are not wearing masks, and the actors themselves came into force on November 1.

Actor Ingo Rademacher, whose Instagram is full of false information and vaccine propaganda, has strongly refused to comply with the vaccine mandate.

Her last episode of the show aired on Monday.

After Burton’s Instagram post, the channel confirmed his departure was due to his failure to meet the show’s vaccine mandate.

Burton’s ouster had been the subject of rumors in the “General Hospital” fandom for weeks. He had tested positive for Covid in mid-August, claiming to have been “exposed at work”.

Meanwhile, internal fights at the salon over Covid protocols spilled over into the public and resulted in the vaccine warrant.

Of the four daytime dramas remaining on the networks, “General Hospital”, which belongs to ABC, is the only one to have instituted a vaccination mandate.

“Days of Our Lives,” and “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” continue to rely on testing, social distancing, and other guidelines recommended by the CDC for their on-set protocols .

The overhaul of popular characters on soap operas and dead characters coming back to life are endemic to the genre.

In the past, the character of Jason has been played by other actors, while Burton has pursued other projects. During Friday’s episode of “General Hospital”, a tunnel collapsed on Jason, further fueling fan theories that Burton had been fired.
